Volunteering

At Bertschi, we welcome volunteers from our families in many roles! Parents, caregivers, extended family members, and alumni support our classrooms and share their time, talents, and expertise with our students throughout the year.

From serving on board of trustee committees and weekly library support, to sharing family cultural traditions and participating in classroom celebrations, we are grateful to the time and energy of our community! Below are just a few of the ways volunteers help make a difference at Bertschi.

Bertschi Family Association

The Bertschi Family Association (BFA) is a volunteer parent/caregiver group tasked with promoting community by supporting teachers, staff, leadership, and families at Bertschi School. BFA volunteers represent the school and its values, which include integrity, inclusiveness, respect, diversity, and a commitment to sustainability. These values are reflected in community events, communications with teachers and families, and BFA activities on and off campus.

BFA volunteers organize community events, amplify community related information, and support teachers’ community related needs throughout the year. The BFA’s core volunteer areas include:

Board of Trustees

Our board of trustees is a group of mostly parent volunteers who oversee the strategic vision and financial security of Bertschi School. Much of the work of the board is accomplished in committees, and both trustees and non-trustees volunteer time to ensure we continue to thrive as a mission-centered school for many generations to come.

Classroom Presentations

We welcome all families to visit the classroom to lead a craft activity, present on a topic personal to their family, do a read aloud, or to share a cultural tradition with our students.

Library Assistant

We welcome all families to visit the classroom to lead a craft activity, present on a topic personal to their family, do a read aloud, or to share a cultural tradition.

Story-Writing in Class

On a regular basis, volunteers serve as "scribes" during kindergarten story-writing so that students can spin their creative tales and develop their narrative skills and build readiness for reading and writing.
