Our Campus
Bertschi’s campus feels like a small village nestled within an urban setting. Before teaching and learning even begin, students enter school grounds that exemplify our commitment to environmental sustainability.
We believe that the space where children learn acts as a “third teacher,” inspired by the ideas of the Reggio Emilia approach. Our campus embodies our value of environmental sustainability through its repurposed buildings side-by-side a LEED Gold-certified building and the first certified “Living Building” in Washington State. We strive to provide learning spaces that inspire students to create a more healthy, positive, and sustainable future.
Living Building
As the first certified "Living Building" in Washington State and the first in the world built to the Living Building Challenge 2.0 standard, the Julie Blystad Science Wing includes solar panels, a living wall of tropical plants to treat grey water, radiant floor heating, and composting toilet.
